August 13, 2011: Laoshi Joel Valerio after his ascension ceremony with one of the gifts he received, a practice Chinese straight sword.

We are excited to announce that the Water Tiger lineage expanded on Saturday, August 13th.  Si-Suk Joel Valerio was granted the title of Laoshi in a formal ascension ceremony at the school’s studio in Patchogue.  The ceremony included a few choice words, three demonstrations, and the formal ascension.

Valerio Laoshi completed testing earlier in the year on April 23rd.  Following the adjudication by three instructors outside the Water Tiger lineage, Laoshi Laurince McElroy was given permission for the ascension. 

Valerio Laoshi currently resides in Lockport, New York (USA), and is looking forward to putting his new title to good use.
